DRAGON NEST WARRIORS DAWN REVIEW SKIN
This may come off as too picky, but I disliked a lot the skin texture that was given to Geraint’s Dragon form in the parts where he wasn’t covered by feathers. And the bigger the object, the worse the textures. It’s disappointing how several times, objects or characters collided with patches of grass or tree branches and not a single leaf moved. Then you have the sceneries that save a few ones, are all plain and lifeless, and the carefully crafted characters only makes them look even worse.

In one hand, you have the characters who are all well animated and so full of detail, and the creatures too for the most part. In the end, it was Barnac who ended up being my personal favorite. Early artwork showed an Argenta with a hell lot more of confidence that would have given this outfit a reason for existence, and it’s unfortunate that the team decided to change her personality without giving her an outfit to match it.
DRAGON NEST WARRIORS DAWN REVIEW MOVIE
Her behavior gives the impression that she is very introverted and dependent on her brother she spends the whole movie covered by her hood, always looking down, never once making eye contact with anyone and only speaking to Geraint so the sexy red outfit that screams for attention caused a huge dissonance that made her look out-of-character in her own universe. My only true complain (as in, it actually annoyed me) is Argenta. I enjoyed them all thoroughly except Nerwin who nothing could save her from being so irrelevant that you could have removed her after the meeting with the king and everything would have been the same. Geraint’s personality was a carbon-copy of his game counterpart to the point that he was predictable (not that I’m complaining, in fact, I found it funny and made me smirk more than once), and Karacule too transitioned nearly the same as her game counterpart while the others had some tweaks to different degrees. Lambert is a cute kid, though the running joke of his terrible luck can get tiring. Karacule and Terramai were a nice surprise, the impact of their interactions relied not in what they were saying, but in their body language (“I fucking hate you and I’m putting up with you only because we need to get this done but I secretly think you are hot”), and I wish this was used more often with everyone else.įor the characters as individuals, I have really nothing special to note. Nerwin loses importance after the first three minutes of the film, and had barely any weight in the group or remarkable exchanges with the rest of the cast. Velskud and Geraint were said to be friends for years already, but their interactions were very underwhelming and forgettable save a few scenes. Scene transition was very well executed, so the pacing has a nice flow, but it’s still noticeable that the movie needed more time to develop it’s own characters. It is loosely based on the game events, so you should know what to expect. (My Shonen tolerance is really low, but I tried to keep myself open minded…)

You won’t find here any groundbreaking themes or life changing moments, and your enjoyment will depend on how much Shonen you can take because basically that’s what both the comedy and romance subplot of the film feels like.

The movie plays safe and bets on a simple, familiar premise of young hero who overcomes his weakness and triumphs.
